Who we are
GRECIAN MAGNESITE is a privately owned company established in 1959 as a mining and industrial concern. However, the magnesite mining expertise goes back to 1914.
GRECIAN MAGNESITE is a magnesite specialist. The company produces and supplies Caustic Calcined Magnesia, Deadburned (Sintered) Magnesia, Magnesium Carbonate (Raw Magnesite) and Basic Monolithic Refractories. A wide range of grades is currently produced, addressing practically all applications where magnesite is used.
For over a century we’ve made it our business to create Magnesite products and grades for practically all industrial applications. Our products are used to manufacture hundreds of finished goods, which are used by millions of people all over the world.

1959
Grecian Magnesite S.A. is incorporated.
1976
The world's first automated laser ore sorter starts photometric operations in Yerakini, Greece.
1979
Our third rotary kiln starts rolling, a 200 ton per day behemoth still in operation today.
1980
Grecian Magnesite acquires the neighboring Kastri mine from Magnomin, an American-Austrian company.
1991
Lafarge Refractaires Monolithiques and Grecian Magnesite join forces - the refractory masses plant they created is eventually purchased by Grecian Magnesite in 1994.
1993
Inauguration of our state-of-the-art Research & Development Centre at Vassilika, near Thessaloniki, Greece.
1993
Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.S., our subsidiary in Turkey is incorporated.
2000
Grecian Magnesite acquires a 40% stake of the Spanish Magnesitas Navarras S.A.
2004
Our subsidiary Akdeniz acquires new calcination & beneficiation facilities, and mining concessions from Comag Continental.
2006
First introduction of biomass fuel in all our kilns with very positive techno-economical and environmental impact.
2010
Our new processing line treats material as fine as 4mm.
2012
Akdeniz Minerals doubles its calcination capacity with a new rotary kiln.
2017
Circular economy principles point us to on-site screening & magnetic separation of old stockpiled fine RoM material and a new dedicated mobile processing line emerges.
2018
A prototype desulphurization unit for the rotary kiln gases raises the bar of innovation in the European LIFE program and beyond as it uses magnesia-based reagents produced form old stockpiled RoM.
2019
The optical sorting plant is upgraded as leading-edge digital color camera sorters replace a number of old laser sorters.
2020
New sensor-based sorting equipment commissioned for our works in Turkey marks a new surging wave of investment throughout Grecian Magnesite.
2021
Launch of a pilot-scale, CO2-neutral, underground mining operation in the island of Evia.
Introduction of a new Magnesium Silicate product line under the brand OLIDUN.
2022
Our green investment agenda attracts funding by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0.
The main beneficiation department is upgraded as cutting-edge X-ray-based mineral processing line is put into operation.
Quality and its control and assurance have been traditionally considered issues of utmost importance for GRECIAN MAGNESITE. Quality assurance has never been considered an end in itself. It merely reflects the commitment to enhanced and consistent product quality and confirms a “total service” concept to our customers. Every employee is an integral part of the quality chain. Thus, service, is extended from the sale of quality products and the timely and economical delivery of these products to customized grades, application know-how and after sales service. To this end, GRECIAN MAGNESITE holds the certification of the Quality Management System under the new ISO Standard 9001:2015.
GRECIAN MAGNESITE fosters a culture of employee well-being, considering social accountability an essential part of its operation and management. In accordance with the requirements of the SA8000®2014 Standard, we have formulated and implemented a comprehensive internal management manual based on social responsibility guidelines of the highest standards.
In addition, the ISO 45001:2018 certification, certifies compliance with our commitment to the safety and health of our people.
GRECIAN MAGNESITE also holds the GMP+ Certification which provides independent audit and verification that our manufacturing and quality systems assure an outstanding quality with safe products for consumers of animal products, for the animals and for the environment and reflects the company's commitment to total customer service.
