CCMF slag conditioning

SLAGBASE

SLAGBASE

SLAGBASE 75 ST is a granular, white, odorless magnesium oxide product, with a high lime content, especially developed for use as slag conditioner, mainly for Ladles and BOFs, where a small addition of MgO can be beneficial.

Main Uses & Advantages

SLAGBASE 75 ST is the best source of MgO since it is much more reactive than other MgO recycled refractories. It has more than double the MgO content than dolomitic lime thus reducing the raw material requirements along with the slag volume.

For a 100mt capacity EAF, 500 - 700kg of SLAGBASE 75 ST per heat, is sufficient.

For a 100mt capacity Ladle, 100kg of SLAGBASE 75 ST per heat, is sufficient.

With the addition of SLAGBASE 75 ST, the slag chemistry is properly controlled, simultaneously achieving:

  • 20% less fettling consumption.
  • 50% less gunning consumption.
  • 30% more work lining brick life.
  • 5% less electric consumption.
  • 1% productivity increase

Packaging & Storage

SLAGBASE 75 ST is available: in bulk. In 1.500kg big bags with or without wooden pallets, according to customer’s requirements.

SLAGBASE 75 ST has a shelf life of 12 months, provided that is stored in a clean, dry storage area under, proper conditions.

Recommended Applications
Slag conditioning using magnesium oxide

Slag Conditioning

MgO-saturated slag is a prerequisite in both EAF and BOF steelmaking. MgO saturation limit, depends mainly on FeO content, basicity, and temperature, and varies from 8% to 12%, depending on each steel plant’s operational parameters.
