The world's first automated laser ore sorter starts photometric operations in Yerakini, Greece.

 

1979

Our third rotary kiln starts rolling, a 200 ton per day behemoth still in operation today.

 

1980

Grecian Magnesite acquires the neighboring Kastri mine from Magnomin, an American-Austrian company.

 

1991

Lafarge Refractaires Monolithiques and Grecian Magnesite join forces - the refractory masses plant they created is eventually purchased by Grecian Magnesite in 1994.

 

1993

Inauguration of our state-of-the-art Research & Development Centre at Vassilika, near Thessaloniki, Greece.

Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.S., our subsidiary in Turkey is incorporated.

 

2000

Grecian Magnesite acquires a 40% stake of the Spanish Magnesitas Navarras S.A.

 

2004

Our subsidiary Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş., acquires new calcination & beneficiation facilities, and mining concessions from Comag Continental.

 

2006

First introduction of biomass fuel in all our kilns with very positive techno-economical and environmental impact.

 

2010

Our new processing line treats material as fine as 4mm.

 

2012

Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş. doubles its calcination capacity with a new rotary kiln.

 

2017

Circular economy principles point us to on-site screening & magnetic separation of old stockpiled fine RoM material and a new dedicated mobile processing line emerges.

 

2018

A prototype desulphurization unit for the rotary kiln gases raises the bar of innovation in the European LIFE program and beyond as it uses magnesia-based reagents produced form old stockpiled RoM.

 

2019

The optical sorting plant is upgraded as leading-edge digital color camera sorters replace a number of old laser sorters.

 

2020

New sensor-based sorting equipment commissioned for our works in Turkey marks a new surging wave of investment throughout Grecian Magnesite.

 

2021

Launch of a pilot-scale, CO2-neutral, underground mining operation in the island of Evia.

Introduction of a new Natural Magnesium Silicate product line under the brand OLIDUN.

 

2022

Our green investment agenda attracts funding by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0.

The main beneficiation department is upgraded as cutting-edge X-ray-based mineral processing line is put into operation.

Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş. installs a roof-type solar energy system at Kumbet plant.

 

2023

Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş. signs an EPC contract for the erection of a new >30.000tpa Rotary Kiln at Kümbet plant.
