The Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is the vessel where the raw material (scrap and/or DRI) melts to produce liquid steel. Heating is made by graphite/carbon electrodes and the permanent lining of the EAF units is usually magnesia-carbon bricks. For the protection of the permanent lining various unshaped, basic monolithic materials are used. Different materials are used for the slag zone (GRECMAGN GUN 90S), for the repairs of the side walls (GRECMAGN GUN 90S, GRECMAGN GUN 90P), for the lower banks (GRECMAGN FRIT L DRY) and for the bottom hearth (GRECMAGN RAM 90 DRY) of the furnace. The aim of the refractory materials is to withstand corrosion and prevent the liquid steel of getting in contact with the bricks.
