Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş. (AMK), new mineral processing line

Athens, Greece -- March 22, 2021 -- Grecian Magnesite S.A. (“GM”), has announced today that its Turkish subsidiary, Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari A.Ş. (AMK), has successfully completed the construction of a new mineral processing line.

The new magnesite processing line incorporates state-of-the-art technology, with a degree of automation that helps minimize manpower and reduce operating costs. Commercial production started in Q4 2020 with approx. 20.000MT of raw magnesite production being achieved with extremely positive results both from a technical/operational and product quality point of view. The new line will provide additional volumes and a wider range of high-end raw magnesite grades for feeding the company’s  kilns.

The €1,5-million processing line, has a nominal capacity to process/beneficiate an additional 30tph of pre-concentrated magnesite. It employs innovative concepts coupled with proven design technologies. Key facilities in the plant are the ore storage and handling, washing and classification, “sensor based sorting equipment” & storage silos.

Commenting on the expansion, Akdeniz CEO Muzaffer Bayazit said, "The accelerating increase in the demand of our high purity magnesium oxide grades, is making it necessary for us to substantially increase our production capacity, to ensure that we meet the growing needs of our customers in the fields of hydrometallurgy (Ni, Co, U precipitation), catalysts and catalyst supports and many others”. “We are committed to grow as a primary supplier of top quality MgO products to the world”. “After significant optimization investments in our mining & post processing operations, this investment will make it possible for us to increase our calcination capacity in order to meet demand and further develop and produce new & more sophisticated MgO high purity grades, for applications like, Food & Pharma Mg compounds, high-end fuel additives, transformer steel and many others.”
