Magnesium Carbonate (or Raw Magnesite) is used as a flux in the ceramic batch formula to improve mechanical properties, decrease water absorption and required firing peak temperature.

Another important outlet of Magnesium Carbonate is as a panel engobe ingredient to impart refractoriness and prevent the tiles from sticking on the kiln rollers at high temperatures. Finally, Magnesium Carbonate is used as a glaze ingredient.

Grecian Magnesite’s Magnesium Carbonate grades were introduced in the high-standard Italian tile industry in the early 90’s. We are proud to say that in cooperation with our local collaborators, we have in fact developed the raw magnesite use in this application, becoming the main supplier for this market. Ever since, our sales expanded to other countries with substantial ceramic tile production such as Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Greece with excellent results. Today, Grecian Magnesite is the leading supplier of this sector worldwide.
